Current and former culture minister - Eyebrows Rashidov and Stefan Danailov, politicians and lawmakers were among those present of worship.

"we will miss a great creative force which carried with him wise words and advice, with artistic and friendly support. We'll miss him in the hall and on stage, even in the cafe – his sunny presence,” theater director Mitko Todorov said at Azaryan’s funeral service.

Letters of condolence were read by Azaryan’s relatives from President Georgi Parvanov, Parliament Speaker Tsetska Tsacheva and Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova.

Azaryan died at 75-years-old following a battle with a serious disease. Even in his last days he managed to finish yet another memorable project and to see the ovations for the Cherry Orchard, a play by Anton Chekhov, at the National Theater.

Azaryan was born on March 15, 1934 in the town of Plovdiv. He was a professor and a lecturer at the National Academy for Theater and Film Arts. Most of the plays that he has directed were staged at the Military Theatre in Sofia.
