A new plant for reinforcement sections was officially inaugurated in Plovdiv on Jan 27 to take advantage of market demand fuelled by the steel-guzzling construction industry. Helios Metalurg is the third domestic company of its type after Pernik-based Stomana and Burgas-based Promet.The plant is certified by Bulgarkontrola, a local quality control benchmarker, and is undergoing ISO 9001 certification.The company plans to start export operations by end-'07, said Maria Vasileva, head of the Helios Metalurg office in Sofia. Helios Metalurg operates facilities in Plovdiv, Sofia and Burgas where reinforcement billet is handled to meet customer specifications.
