Panayot Pipkov was the author of the hymn dedicated to the May 24th Feast of Bulgarian Literacy and Culture. The hymn, based on the lyrics of Stoyan Mikhailovski, was written in 1901, while Panayot Pikov was teaching his class of music in the male high school int he town of Lovetch. He literally wrote the notes on the blackboard with his piece of chalk. Initially the song contained 15 stanzas, only six of which have remained popular and are currently performed each May 24th.
