A man from Plovdiv, Yovo Baldzhijski, paid his utilities bill with coins of 1, 2 and 5 stotinki. His whole bill was 275 BGN and the total weight of the coin bag was 36 kg. That was his way to protest against the almost doubled bills every household was supposed to pay for the past month, which was explained by the new rates of electricity.

Electricity bills are still paid in utility companies offices and not via Internet – therefore the man took his heavy bag of small coins and let the ladies working there count his coins for a couple of hours…. They were furious but he was glad he was able to express his protest against the unfair increase in electricity rates.
