Anniversary of the death of Konstantin Irechek

Konstantin Josef Irechek (written also Irecek, as it is in his native Czech) is a Czech historian, member of the French Academy of Sciences (1898), honorable member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (1898).

Konstantin Irechek was born in 1954. He graduated from the Karlovy University (aka. Charles university) in Prague in 1885, specializing Slavonic History. Irechek was a professor of general history at the Karlovy University (1884-93) and of hidtory of the slavonic countries and their neighboring countries at the Vienna University, Austria (1893-1918)

 

Encouraged by a large number of Bulgarian researchers, Irechek wrote his thesis on the History of Bulgarians, published in Czech (1876), German (1876) and Russian (1878), which has a number of publishings in our country (1886, 1888, 1929).

In the period 1879-1884, Irechek lived in Bulgaria. He was an eminent figure in the Principality of Bulgaria: he was the Chief Secretary of the Ministry of National Education (1879-1881), then a Minister of National Education (1881-82).
