During the last few years, April 22nd, The Day of the Earth, is celebrated all around the world. It was declared the Day of the Earth in 1970 first in the USA and Canada, on the initiative of the US senator Gaylord Nelson. In 1990 the celebration of the Day of the Earth goes beyond the boundaries of North America. 3200 ecological organization from 141 countries are participating with environmental activities in the International Organization for the Day of the Earth, permanently located in Canada. For its celebration all around the world activities are organized for cleaning up, recreating and preserving the environment.

We are proud that it was Plovdiv who gave birth to the ?Green Balkans? movement, back in 1988, which today is the largest Bulgarian environmental organization. It combines the efforts of over 4000 members and 280 active volunteers in preservation of the environment on the Balkan Peninsula, and Bulgaria in particular.
