The Plovdiv Mayor, Dr. Ivan Chomakov, is expected to unveil a new bas-relief of Major Raicho NIkolov (more popular as "Captain Raicho") located at the Dzhumayata Square right in the centre of Plovdiv. The Plovdiv Metropolitan Arsenius will hold a memorial service.
Raicho Nikolov was a volunteer in the Russo-Turikish War of Liberation (1877-78, one of the comandeers of Bulgarian volunteer army, and an active participant in the Unification of Bulgaria (1885). The sad story is that Raicho Nikolov was actually the only victim of the Unification - he was killed by a Bulgarian, called Kostadin Todorov....
