Bulgarian-Israeli outfit joint venture to invest 50 mln euro in Plovdiv mall

Bulgarian-Israeli joint venture Melina has unveiled plans for a 50 mln euro shopping mall in Plovdiv, the nation's second biggest city.

Central Mall Markovo Tepe will have a 8,500 sq m footprint and a built-up area of 64,000 sq m, including 22,000 sq m of retail space. The shopping center should open in 2008.

Retailers will occupy the first 2 of the mall's 6 floors. The eateries, cinema theaters and children's play areas will be on the third floor. Floors 4 through 6 will be offices with a separate entrance. A supermarket are a 450-car parking facility are planned for the underground floor.

Aviv Construction and CCI, the Israeli team that developed the Mall of Sofia, started the construction of a large-scale commercial and entertainment center in Plovdiv in December 2006. The mall complex is due for launch in the spring of 2008.

A third mall-type complex under development in the city, Galeria Plovdiv, is also expected to open in 2008.
