The athlete Ivet Lalova was awarded with the “Sports and Fair Play” Prize by the International Olympic Committee for 2005, as the BG Olympic Committee reported.

That traditional for the IOC prize is left to be decided upon by the National Olympic committee. The Fair Play Commission of the BG Olympic Committee, with Chairman the Olympic champion Zdravka Yordanova, appointed Ivet Lalova to get that prize for the year 2005.

The Commission took into consideration the incident on June 14th, 2005, at am athletic tournament in Athens, Greece, where the 22-year-old successful athlete was pushed by another athlete and broke her leg. That incident is considered a real tragedy for the career of an athlete so successfully moving ahead but Ivet proudly accepted her fate seeking no compensation either from her fellow competitor in that tournament who caused the incident nor from the organizers of the event.

After her debut at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, Lalova finished 4th in the 100 m sprint and 5th in the 200 m. She is European champion from the 2005 Madrid Indoor Championship.
