"Night of the scientists"
9/25/2009 5:49:43 PM
The European “Night of the scientists” is organized for the fifth consecutive year throughout Europe. The event is supported by the EC. In Bulgaria the event is marked for the fourth time. Sofia and other major cities in the country like Plovdiv, Russe, Stara Zagora, Varna, Shumen, Yambol, Silistra, Pleven, Haskovo and Dimitrovgrad will mark the event, announced the organizers. This year the happening is devoted to astronomy and technologies, and concerts, exhibitions, poetic readings, curiosity classes, night gazing are only part of the events that will be carried out. Many of the events are dedicated to the International year of astronomy, as 2009 is the 400th anniversary since Galileo Galilee watched the night sky with a telescope for the first time and the year also marks 30 years since the flight of the first Bulgarian astronaut Georgi Ivanov. The European night of scientists' purpose is to present different kinds of sciences in a more attractive way so that the attention of the youth is drawn to them.
