On this day, 1195 years ago, July 26th 811, Bulgaria’s ruler Khan Krum defeats the strong Byzantine army of Emperor Nicephorus I Genik. Byzantine Emperor was killed as were most of his supreme commanders and courtiers. That victory had a significant importance for the future of the young Bulgarian state. Khan Krum was not only a brave army commander but also great statesman, law-maker and administrator.
