During a discussion for the future of the Plovdiv International Fair, the Plovdiv Mayor, Dr Chomakov, insisted on Fair’s profit remaining in Plovdiv. “The International Fair is part of Plovdiv’s history – it has more than 1200 employees, all citizens of our beloved city but the taxes go to Sofia…”, he said.

Now, when 90% of our economy is private, it is expected private capital to enter the Fair. The large-scale strategy for restructuring the Plovdiv Fair is due to the fact that the company needs 60 million BGN of investments until the year 2010 – the money will go for modernizing the infrastructure and improving the quality of services. The Fair has to expand even as territory, said its executive manager Yordan Radev, as requests for participation in the autumn exhibition have already exceeded existing space by 4000 sq.m….
