The eminent translator, writer, poet, publicist and professor of English Literature at the English and American Studies Department (Sofia University), Prof. Alexander Shurbanov is this year’s laureate of the Hristo G. Danov Life Achievement Literary Award.
Prof. Shurbanov, who is also Doctor Honoris Causa of the universities of Kent and Surrey, offered last year his own new translation (16th in a row) of Shakespeare’s tragedy “Hamlet”. He has also translated Geoffrey Chaucer’s “Canterbury Tales” and John Milton’s “Paradise Lost”.
The Hristo G. Danov Awards were handed for ninth year at the Hristo G. Danov’s House Museum in the Old Town of Plovdiv, and this year the event coincided with another cultural event in Plovdiv – “Plovdiv is reading”.
