The popular French pop diva, Silvie Vartan, was born on August 15, 1944, in the village of Iskrets (some 8-9 km away from the town of Svoge, and 50 km north of Sofia). "Going back to my earliest childhood memories from Bulgaria, I have the feeling that I must have been the happiest kid finding out the world..."

Those words of Silvie Vartan are taken from her memoirs-book called "Between Shadow and Light". Her memories of her native Bulgaria are published by the Sluntse Publishing House.

The famous singer arrived to Bulgaria with her husband for a series of charity events for the Bulgarian orphans. On Friday the star born in Bulgaria will give autographs at the premiere of her book 'Between Shadow and Light' in the National palace of Culture (NPC). The actress and ex-rock performer have always spoken excellent Bulgarian.

Today, President Georgy Parvanov will decorate Silvie Vartan with the "Stara Planina (i.e. Balkan Range)" Order, Second Class, for her highly noble charity and humanitarian activity. Friday, December 17th, Silvie Vartan is going to visit Plovdiv for a charity event at the Children's Clinic of the Plovdiv University Hospital, and will also meet her numerous fans in our city...
