Today turns 105th anniversary of the start of the Ilinden-Preobrazhenie uprising, considered to be one of the culminating points in the fights for liberation of the Bulgarian population in the Macedonia region and Edirne region, led by the VMRO Organization (i.e. Bulgarian Macedonian-Adrianople Revolutionary organization).
Initially, the uprising started in the Bitolya revolutionary section but it spread up into the Erirne region as well. Although the heroic attitude of the revolutionaries, the Turkish army outnumbered them and was much better equipped which led to the brutal suppresion of the uprising. Although short in duration, that uprising has a large historical input.
