Hadji Dimiter was born on May 10th, 1840. His real name was Dimiter Nikolov Assenov, son of a prosperous artisan, who travelled with his family to Jerusalem in 1842, thus becoming a "Hadji". Hadji Dimiter was a famous Bulgarian revolutionary, leader of a fighting detachment against the Turkish opressors. He died on July 18th, 1867, near Veliko Turnovo, and his head was taken to Turnovo...
