The Latin name of the month - Julius, very much like the following August, comes from the name of a Roman Emperor – in this case, Julius Caesar (101-44 B.C.). A lot of Roman Emperors dreamt of such an honor (e.g. Nero was one of them) but did not succeed in naming a month… The old traditional BG name for than month used to be “goreshtnik”, meaning “hot month”.
