The poet Pavel Matev died at the age of 81

Pavel Matev was born on Feb.12th, 1924, in the village of Orizivo, Hasskovo region. He graduated from a high school in the town of Chirpan (1938) and then the major of Slavonic Languages at the Sofia University (1949).

He worked at the BG Art and Culture Committee (1949-51), an editor at the Cinematography Committee (1951-56), deputy-editor of the ?Plamak? Magazine (1956-58, 1964-65), editor-in-chief of the ?Septemvri? Magazine (1964-66). He had highest-rank positions at the BG Art and Culture Committee, the Culture Department of the BG Communist Party Central Committee, the Bulgarians Abroad Committee, the Union of BG Writers.

?The BG poetry lost one of its most lyrical contemporary poets?, said the BG President Georgi Purvanov in his condolence address.

The motto that the poet wrote on the cover of his latest book of poetry ?Under Clouds and Skies? says: ?My tender feelings seek human shelter. I would like to be remembered by my quiet art?? The luxurious book of collection of over 700 selected poems, published by the ?Zachary Stoyanov? Publishing House was released on the occasion of Pavel Matev?s 80th anniversary.
