A sensational find has been uncovered in excavations of a Thracian necropolis in the Lilovo area near the town of Devin – a unique bronze rapier resembling the Mycenae rapiers of the so called “Transylvania” type. It is 70 cm long, with preserved width of 2 cm at the base and 1 cm at the top.
Other ancient items have also been found along with the rapier – 10 different shapes of pots and fragments of burnt bronze items, all of which are considered an important proof of the early Thracian-Mycenae contacts during the first phase of the late-bronze epoch in Thrace.
