St. Annas Summer Feastday (Dormition of the Mother of the Holy Virgin)
7/25/2012 10:00:00 AM
Name day of everyone named Anna, Yana, Enko.
This is the second day around the year dedicated to St. Anna
(December 9 - ANINDEN/St. Anna’s Day, the Conception of the Holy Mother of God by Saint Anna).
St.Anna is celebrated as the guardian of pregnancies, birth and motherhood. This day is supposed to be free of any work – otherwise women would miscarriage or have hard delivery. The mistresses of the houses make bread without yeast and give it away for the health of young children; that way the saint is going to protect them of fire or fever. St.Anna’s icon is decorated with flowers and gifts by church-goers.
