Bulgaria is sixth in the world in Informatics !



One gold and three silver medals for the BG programmers put Bulgaria among the strongest countries at the 16th International Olympics in Inofrmatics, that took place in Greece. The gold medal was won by Vladimir Nedev from the Varna High School of Mathematics, while the silver medal winners were: Rangel Dokov (Plovdiv), Valentin Mikhov (Varna) and Svetoslav Kolev (Rousse). 

In the non-official team position, according to the medals won, the BG school team is placed 6th after the traditionally strong teams of China, Russia, USA and Poland. Far behind us remains the strong team of Korea, which was the winner in the preceding two International Olympics. The International Informatics Olympics is held annually under the guardianship of UNESCO, and is the most prestigious competition of its kind for school students. Each country sends only four students from the secondary schoold all over the country - usually the ones that took first places in the national competitions.

Teams from 81 countries participated in the International Informatics Olympics this year, September 11th-18th, in Athens, Greece. The participants had three algorythm problems to solve within five hours, during the two days of competition.
