Bishops Queue to Greet the Patriarch on His Birthday Bishops queued in front of Lozenets Hospital in Sofia to congratulate the Patriarch of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, Maxim on his 92nd birthday. Bishop John of the Russian Orthodox Church was one of those who came to greet him along with the Metropolitans from the Holy Synod. The clergy gave the Patriarch flowers and presents. In his honour a service was held in St Alexander Nevski Cathedral in Sofia. Bulgaria's President Georgi Parvanov, Parliament's Speaker Georgi Pirinski and the Department of Ecclesiastical Matters sent greetings for the Patriarch's birthday.
