Student Orchestra from Netherlands is playing in Plovdiv on July 1 - free admission

The Vu-orchestra is the student orchestra from the VU University of Amsterdam and is one of the most famous and pioneering amateur orchestra in the Netherlands.

With a large group of playing musicians (80 to 120 students), the orchestra mostly plays late-romantic pieces. This orchestra was also the first student orchestra in the Netherlands who played symphonies of Mahler and Shostakovitsch. Besides this the orchestra also plays a lot of new compositions of modern composers.

Every year the VU-Orchestra goes on a tour where the students give several concerts on different locations. This year they visit Bulgarian cities of Sofia and Plovdiv. During this tour the orchestra will give two very special concerts.

Plovdiv Concert:

1th of July 2009, 7.00 PM

PLovdiv Opera and Philharmony Society

Plovdiv, 1 Central Square

Free Admission

“Russian Vodka with French perfume” wrote a newspaper about Stravinsky’s ballet Petroushka. The Vu-Orchestra shows the audience the tarnished drama of the doll who was brought to life and fought for the love of this lovely ballerina.

The opposite of Petroushka is the 6th symphony of Shostakovitch. It is a gloomy and nimble work and leaves you with a huge feeling of emptiness. Alongside with these two Russian pieces, the VU-Orchestra will also play a Dutch composition: Arcade (an Arch) from Tristan Keuris.

The orchestra believes it is a huge privilige to visit Bulgaria and give two concerts to the Bulgarian audience. The orchestra kindly asks everyone to help them promote these concerts, and Bulgarian people to have the the chance to meet an enthusiastic student orchestra from Amsterdam.

The admission to both concerts is free.
