That day back in 1879 the first Bulgarian Knyaz was appointed

That was the time the first ever Grand National Assembly summoned as the highest state institution and the only that has constituting authority. The first Grand Assembly had only one day of session, immediately following the Constitutional Assembly (Feb.10, 1879 – April 16, 1879).

As proposed by Bishop Kliment Branitski (i.e. Vassil Droumev), the Grand Assembly appoints Alexander Battenberg as the first Knyaz of Bulgaria.
