The Academy of Music, Dances and Arts - Plovdiv celebrates its 40th anniversary. That university of Plovdiv's, whose former students have been scattered all around the world, gives the opportunity to young talents in the field of music, dancing, art to study and develop their talents. The AMDA is a unique institute not only because it is situated on the three hills called Trimontium, between the three Orthodox churches "Holy Virgin Mother", "St Nicholas the Wonderworker" and "St Demetrius", and just above the Ancient Theatre. This Academy is also the most European one in spirit, because it combines the modern european standards with the Bulgarian old-times folklore.
It educates high-level specialists in classic and modern folklore, ballet, folk choreography, conducting, composition, music theory, pedagogics, painting and applied arts, church icon painting. On October 8, 1964, thirty-seven students and teacher enter the then branch of the State Music Conservatory, laying the foundations of today's Art Academy in Plovdiv.
