ZADOUSHNITZA (All Souls’ Day): In the Thracian region of Bulgaria they call it "Spassovska Zadoushnitza", while in North Bulgaria it is known as "Petdesetnishka" (Pentecost's) because it is held on the Sunday before Pentecost.
On that day people go to the graveyard where their relatives have been buried, and besides decanting, lighting candles, handing out and holding memorial feasts, they always leave walnut leaves - the way they do on Spassovden.
All Souls' Day is also known as the Feast of All Souls, the Commemoration of all the Faithful Departed.
The Eastern Orthodox Church dedicates several days throughout the year to the dead, mostly on Saturdays, because of Jesus' being laid in the tomb on Saturday.
