Violinist Daniela Shtereva to play with Redlands Symphony Orchestra

REDLANDS - The Redlands Symphony Orchestra will present "Vibrant Virtuosi" at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 15, and 3 p.m. Sunday, March 16.

One highlight of the concert will be violin soloist Daniela Shtereva.

Born in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, into a family with musical tradition extending back five generations, Shtereva holds a bachelor's degree from the National Conservatory of Music in Sofia, Bulgaria, a master's degree in music from Louisiana State University and an artist diploma from Carnegie Mellon University.

Among her main teachers are Cyrus Forough, Kevork Mardirossian and Evgenia-Maria Popova, themselves pupils of legendary violinists David Oistrakh, Yfrah Neamann and Leonid Kogan.

Shtereva is the first-place prizewinner of the Lynn National Violin Competition 2007, the Society of American Musicians Auditions in Chicago in March 2007 and the Washington International String Competition 2006. She was also a semifinalist of the Sarasate International Violin Competition 2007, Michael Hill 2007, Indianapolis 2006 and Sibelius 2005.

Her recent solo and chamber music appearances include concerts at the Seattle Chamber Music Festival, Kennedy Center and Pittsburgh. Her playing has been described as "absolutely spine-tingling" (Rod Biss, Strad magazine October 2007) and her Bartok second concerto performance as "shot through with fantasy and fire" (Andrew Malone, Washington Post, May 2006).

She also has five CDs released on Music Minus
